ConnectionPoint campaign links have ‘referral codes’ built in so that your supporters can see who’s recommended your campaign to them.
If a person shares a campaign with an option from the share bar while logged into their ConnectionPoint user account, a ‘referral code’ is attached to the link. This code starts with ?ref= followed by a series of letters and numbers and is unique to each user. When someone clicks the link shared by this user, the platform puts a banner on top of the campaign letting the visitor know this is, indeed, the campaign this user shared.
Not only does this assure the user of the campaign’s legitimacy, but the user can also attach a written message and/or video, letting their friends and family members know why they want everyone to contribute to the campaign.
This also allows the platform to track which campaign team member has influenced what contributions, which is an important feature for certain types of campaigns.
Just because you can see this banner does not mean it lives forever on the campaign.
Your browser remembers this code, so even if you remove the referral code from the link, you’ll still see it. If you delete your browser history and cache, it’ll be removed.
