Nancy is a Vice-President & Wealth Advisor at RBC Dominion Securities. She has co-written a book called "A Life in Bloom: A Down to Earth Women's Guide to a Successful Financial Future" informed by her 38 year career. She has always believed that women need to take charge of their own financial futures.
Nancy has been an ardent volunteer her whole life, believing strongly that together we build better communities and connections. She has been the chair of the West Vancouver Foundation for five years and is on the board of Hollyburn Family Services Society, dedicated to protecting vulnerable youths and seniors. She was awarded the prestigious RBC Global Citizen award in 2018 and travelled to Kenya to help build a school with 46 other RBC award recipients. She believes that the strengthening of education opportunities, particularly for girls, can dramatically improve societal outcomes. Having seen on the ground the dedication of the "learners", as the girls described themselves, inspires her to create educational opportunities whenever they arise.
Supporting the Candle Light Foundation of Uganda and the Candle Light High School in Mukono District is an opportunity that allows us all to make a difference, to make a change, in the lives of girls who have suffered abuse in various forms and who come from less fortunate and difficult circumstances. Supporting the Candle Light High School allows us to provide the girls with an education and skills but also to help make their dreams come true.
A problem for girls in many African countries when they reach the age of menstruation is that at the time of their period they do not attend school because they do not have or cannot afford sanitary napkins and they do not feel safe. The Rotary Hygiene and Sanitation Social Enterprise Ltd. now operates from the Candle Light High School and is mandated to provide training in menstrual hygiene management and the production of reusable environmentally friendly sanitary pads. The training and menstrual products are initially being provided in 6 schools in Mukono District but the Social Enterprise is working with Rotary Clubs to provide the training and products to all students across the country.
The social enterprise is also providing opportunities for girls who have graduated from the Candle Light High School.
By contributing towards the extension to the Candle Light High School you to can be part of this amazing transformation. The school program is for students from age five to eighteen. The school presently has one hundred and forty students and the extension will allow for the number of students attending the school to be increased to seven hundred and will also allow more space for the social enterprise to increase its capacity.
