welcome family and friends of Kayla Roberts to Here you will find
updates on her progress as she pulls through this difficult time.
Please feel free to make comments, prayers, support and fun times or
memories you may have of Kayla. We know there are many! While we want
this to be a place to find updates, we would also like it to serve as
place Kayla will be able to visit to see her journey, how far she has
come and feel the love that so many have for her. We strongly believe
in prayer, her medical staff, and positivity that Kayla will be back
to herself in no time. Her family thanks everyone for your continued
prayers and support!
On November 24, 2022, Kayla was admitted to
the hospital with trouble breathing due to Covid, Flu, Bronchitis, and
Pneumonia. Throughout the night the medical team decided Kayla needed
to be on a ventilator to help her breath. By morning, they realized
the vent was not doing enough to help Kayla. Her medical team then
decided to transfer her to ICU. She would still remain on the vent
and would be put on ECMO to give her lungs a rest. ECMO circulates her
blood through a machine that gives her blood more oxygen. It
basically acts as her lungs. Being on these two machines requires
that she be put in a medically induced coma and on paralysis
medication. After reviewing her blood work it showed signs of a
bacteria growing, which was MRSA. Kayla was put strong antibiotics to
fight the infection.
On November 26, 2022, the nurses told us
that her right hand had a clot, and it was affecting the circulation
to her fingers. Her nails were purple and ice cold. We held it and
wrapped it in a heating pad. The nurse told us that while they were
doing everything they could to get her circulation back, there was a
chance she would lose some of her fingers. Of course we were really
upset, but we also knew that the main goal was to keep our girl
alive. Later today at 5pm Kayla's SVA Senior Class organized a
prayer vigil outside the hospital building. It was absolutely
beautiful to see all the people that truly love Kayla and the prayers
were amazing. A few hours after this vigil, we went to say goodnight
to Kayla. We were in shock when we saw her fingers were pink again.
The ones that were purple just hours before, were pink. Her lips were
pink and her skin looked amazing.
