Our introduction to llamas was completely random! A lonely llama standing on the side of the road as we drove past headed towards Alaska. he watched us drive past. Upon our return home there was a message from a neighbour explaining that a rogue llama was jumping fences and about to be shot. If we caught him we could keep him. With a borrowed trailer we headed out to find him ...and there he was, a majestic creature who knew he was the boss.
He had been wearing a halter for years and it
was embedded in his jaw. So hardened by the weather it had to be cut
free. TomBurke was the first and he taught us so much about llamas!
18 years later and The Llama sanctuary has become the largest Camelid rescue organization in North America.
